I wanted to share with my fellow professionals a couple of "non-work" situations that have come up for Denver Parks and Recreation staff where they had to apply their First Aid Skills, and were able to make a difference.
We have been participating in the Mile High Corporate games over the past several weeks. We had a team that was competing in the Volleyball competition. During that 5 hour competition, one of our staff had to wrap a rolled ankle and butterfly a facial laceration from running into the volleyball net when the ball was coming right at them.
On a different occasion, the Kickball team was competing, a player in a different game some how injured themselves and was described as having a "serious head injury" by the organizers. Two of the Denver Parks and Rec staff handled the situation and received thanks from the organizers of the Corporate Games.
Both situations were not work related, but the skills they applied were learned from having those certifications required by their positions with our department.
